New Camera?

Thu Mar 13, 2008, 3:00 AM
Sinces my old jounal entry was posted on october I think it's time to post a new one. And again a quite popular topic:

Which camera should I buy?

My 350D is still working but there's no session without me complaining about it, especially because I always see how *DeadStarKews 400D performs. Hers should be just a bit better than mine but by now it feels as if there were 5 years between those models.

Of course I do not intend to buy a 400D. I'd get a Mino...eeeeh Sony if I could but this is also impossible because of my wonderful canon lenses. I think it will be 40D or a 450D.

But WHICH one? The 40D is a bit more expensive but it seems it's better for me ... lets try to list some advances that are interesting for me:

40D:
  • Bigger and brigther viewfinder (does anyone know if it shows more than this 95% crop i get on the 350D?)
  • faster AF
  • better controls / wheel
  • Kelvin WB (ohhh how I hate it when tungsten, daylight and inc get bad results!)
  • longer battery life (okay, not really an issue)
  • 6,5 fps (nice but not too important for me - i almost never used the 350Ds 3fps but maybe just because it's too slow to do anything good)

450D:
  • 2 more megapixels
  • lighter (not too important, the lenses are heavy anyway)
  • newer model :D(higher resale value?)
  • cheaper

Did I miss something? Anything else? Mhh ...

I hate watermarks.

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 17, 2007, 11:24 AM
This is an old topic, I know. People just don't seem to like it anymore ... but anyway: Why does this watermark terror never stop? A good fried, *Zeitwolf, just recently startet putting ugly watermarks on her beautiful photographs and she does not want to discuss it - so I write this journal instead.

I do not like the fact that some people are copying other people's pics and pretend they are their own. Of course. And I do understand when someone calls for his lawyer when his photos are sold by someone else for profit. And I understand the problems created for artists who sell their works for a living when someone else throws them around for free.

But what I do not understand is this watermark business here. (strangely enough, this seems to be not much of a problem in other communities) If you are an amateur (yes, calling someone "professional" has nothing to do with quality) who takes photos (or paints pictures) because of artistic motivation, why do fear that your "art" could be "stolen" by anyone?

Several years ago when I just had my first digicam and when I was not very experienced with photography, I found that some of my rubbish subway elevator shots were found on several websites I never heard about before. I was angry at first but when I thought about it I wondered where the problem was. Shouldn't I be happy about being recognized?

Shouldn't YOU be happy about your pictures spreading over a larger part of the Internet than your DA account?

Definitely, some of you seem not happy about it ... but why? The only rational answer to this question would be: your pictures are your property and everyone should respect this. This would be okay in my opinion if the property issue would be less important than the artwork itself. But buying a DSLR and some expensive lenses to create high quality pictures while making them look ugly by putting large letters over them is quite irrational I think.

I do not think the Internet is a good medium for presenting art in a restrictive way. If you present your photos, EVERYONE can see them and everyone can USE them for everything he or she wants. So if you are too worried about your property you should think about using the internet.

That's my opinion I would be REALLY glad to know what you think. Maybe I forgot to think about an aspect.

Devious Journal Entry

Sun Oct 14, 2007, 3:40 AM
I guess it's time to post another journal entry. For some reason, everytime I think about delaying uploading for some time (because I'm not really satisfied with my photos in certain way), someone buys me a subscription. Yay. This time the credit goes to =DeadStarKew ...

... who also somehow keeps my camera alive because my battery charger stopped working. I first thought the batteries or the camera itself were bugged but then I tried Suse's battery and I everything worked fine. Anyone encountered this problem with A 350D /400D?

Hmmm ... what else? Why I am I so lazy? Weather's good, the camera is ready and I am doing job / university stuff. Mahhaahu. :(
